Downtown Puerto Vallarta is full of Mexican charm. There are two main downtown areas. El Centro, to the north, and to the south of Rio Cuale is the Zona Romantica. While those two areas are heavily supported by tourism, they are older areas of the city where residents work and live. With the warm weather, most people keep their doors and windows wide open, so walking the side streets, you get see peoples courtyards, balconies, kitchens and living rooms.
