In June 2021, we visited Puerto Vallarta for a week and stayed at the Buganvilias Resort Vacation Club. It was our 4th time visiting Puerto Vallarta and the second time staying at the Buganvilias. The last time we stayed there in 2015, we liked the laidback vibe at the resort, the food at the restaurants was good, and the resort is located within walking distance of downtown and the Romantic Zone.
Our timeshare exchange upgraded up to a two-bedroom suite. We were traveling solo this time so when we checked in, we told the front desk we did not need two bedrooms, but they gave us one anyway. It was a large, nicely remodeled room with full kitchen and a spacious balcony overlooking one of the pools. The balcony was a great place to have our meals and watch the thunderstorms as they rolled through.
I would recommend the Buganvilias Resort Vacation Club. It is clean and well-maintained with plenty of amenities. Although we ate most of our meals outside the resort, we had an excellent meal at their Japanese themed restaurant Umai, and an outstanding meal at their premiere restaurant, Gaviotas. The beach in front of the resort is not the best, but the pools are nice and warm (maybe even too warm on a hot day). We met a lot of friendly people at the resort and made friends with a family from Wisconsin.
One of my favorite things about the resort is that it’s near a nice residential neighborhood. Directly across the main road is a huge athletic park where locals play games and exercise. Beyond that and up into the hills are houses where people live and residential shops where people work.
